Iowa Pork Honors Five HS Girls Basketball Players with Top Producer Awards

March 10, 2025

The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) is proud to honor five exceptional high school girls' basketball players with the prestigious Top Producer Award. This recognition celebrates one standout player from each class following the Iowa Girls State Basketball Tournament championship games.

In partnership with the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU), IPPA presents this award to athletes who exemplify leadership, teamwork, and resilience on the court. These players go beyond individual performance, demonstrating perseverance and sportsmanship that elevate their teams' success during tournament play.

"Whether in pig farming or athletics, success comes from hard work, determination, and teamwork," said Aaron Juergens, a pig farmer from Carroll and president of IPPA. "Reaching the state tournament is no small feat—it takes dedication and countless hours of effort. Congratulations to all the teams, and a special salute to the top producers who helped lead the way!"

The Top Producers selected by IGHSAU for the 2025 Iowa Girls State Basketball Championships are:

  • 5A: Ava Zediker, Dowling Catholic

Ava Zediker, a senior point guard, scored 20 points, grabbed two steals and dished out two assists for Dowling Catholic in the Class 5A game on Friday against Johnston. Dowling Catholic finished as the state runner-up to Johnston.

  • 2A: Sydney Doeschot, Hinton

Sydney Doeschot, a junior guard, scored 16 points, dished out six assists, and came up with a crucial blocked shot in the closing seconds, to lead Hinton to 48-46 victory over Central Lyon in the Class 2A state championship. Doeschot was also named captain of the Class 2A All-Tournament Team as Hinton finished the season undefeated.

  • 1A: Kinzee Hinders, Newell-Fonda

Kinzee Hinders, a senior forward, scored 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and delivered three assists for Newell-Fonda. Her team lost a heartbreaking double overtime game to Council Bluffs St. Albert in the Class 1A championship game Saturday.

“We are proud to partner with the Iowa Pork Producers Association,” said Erin Gerlich, executive director of the IGHSAU. “One of our main objectives is to promote the outstanding achievements of our Iowa Girls. Through the Iowa Pork Top Producer Award, we are able to recognize some of our best performers at our historic basketball championships. Additionally, their support has been able to help us provide a first-class championship experience for our fans, families, and, most importantly, our Iowa Girls. Thank you for your continued support of the IGHSAU!

This is the 15th year IPPA has partnered with IGHSAU to promote girls high school athletics. The Iowa Pork Producers Association also recognized the Top Producer in each class at the Girls State Volleyball Championships in November and is proud to support high school sports in Iowa.
