Williamsburg Native Interns at Iowa Pork Producers Association
June 9, 2023
Nicole Wardenburg of Williamsburg started in mid-May as a promotion and communications intern at the Iowa Pork Producers Association in Clive.
As part of her internship, she has been assisting with pork promotions at events across the state, including the recent World Pork Expo in Des Moines; the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) in July; and the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines in August.
Wardenburg grew up on a diversified grain and livestock farm in southeast Iowa, and was particularly active with her family’s cow-calf operation. In addition, she showed pigs and sheep at the local and state levels.
Wardenburg will be a junior this fall at Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames, where she is studying animal science and agricultural communication. She is set to graduate in May 2025.
At ISU, she is involved with the Block & Bridal Club; is a peer mentor for animal science students; and participates in the animal science An-Cy Guides program, to assist with recruitment of animal science students and educational events, as well as provide tours of ISU’s animal teaching farms. She also is president of Swine Production Advocates, a student-led group focused primarily on commercial swine production, and currently is the recruitment director with Sigma Alpha, a professional agricultural sorority.
Along with her college experiences, she completed a yearlong reign as Iowa County Fair Queen starting in summer 2021. She worked to promote agricultural organizations like 4-H and FFA to area youth, and represented the Iowa County Fair through community activities.
Wardenburg is the daughter of Brian and Margaret Wardenburg and a 2021 graduate of Williamsburg Jr-Sr High School.
